Who we are
Ekko ("we," "us," "our") provides a faith-community mobile and web application that connects members of Christian communities for discipleship, messaging, and learning. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have.
Information we collect
- Account information: name, email address, profile photo, and optional profile details (bio, ministry role, country, age range, occupation, interests) that you provide when signing up or editing your profile.
- Community content: messages, broadcasts, course progress, notes, survey responses, and reactions you create within the communities you join.
- Device information: push notification tokens, device type, and basic diagnostics needed to deliver the service.
- Authentication data: we use Clerk to handle sign-in, password storage, and OAuth flows. Clerk stores your credentials on our behalf.
How we use your information
- Provide and operate the Ekko service.
- Enable community, home-group, and course features you choose to participate in.
- Send push notifications, welcome emails, and moderation-related communications.
- Respond to reports of objectionable content and abuse.
- Debug issues, prevent fraud, and enforce our Terms of Service.
Who we share with (sub-processors)
We use the following third-party processors to deliver Ekko. Each has their own privacy practices:
- Clerk — authentication and identity management.
- Convex — application database and real-time backend.
- Mux — video hosting and streaming for course content.
- Resend — transactional email delivery.
- Expo / EAS — mobile app delivery, push notification infrastructure, and native crash reporting.
We do not sell your personal information to advertisers or data brokers.
Content moderation and reporting
Ekko includes messaging and broadcast features that allow community members to share content. We commit to reviewing reports of objectionable content within 24 hours of submission, in line with Apple App Store guideline 1.2. We maintain a zero tolerance policy for harassment, hate speech, and other abusive content as described in our Terms of Service.
Children
Ekko is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with information, please contact us at support@ekko.life and we will delete the account.
Your rights
- Access and correction: you can view and update most profile information directly in the app under Settings → Profile.
- Deletion: you can delete your account at any time from Settings → Profile → Delete my account. Deletion removes your profile, progress, notes, and memberships permanently. Messages you have sent remain visible to their recipients but are attributed to "[deleted user]" rather than your name.
- Data export: contact support@ekko.life to request a copy of your data.

Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. After account deletion, we retain a minimal tombstone record (user identifier and cancelled status) so that messages you have previously sent remain attributed to a recognized source in other users' conversations. All personally identifying profile data is removed at the moment of deletion.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), managed cloud infrastructure, and strict access controls. No system is perfectly secure; if we become aware of a material breach affecting your data, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notification or email. Your continued use of Ekko after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
